You’ve been invited to a conceit by some new friends, but really can't stand the performer. You don't want to offend your friends by insulting their taste in music, but simply can’t bear the thought of listening to this horrible music for several hours. To get out of going without hurting anyone’s feelings, and not jeopardizing your chance of being invited to other events in the future, you lie:                

You’re relaxing at the beach, reading a book and sunbathing when suddenly some children start playing a ball game right next to you. You try to ignore it at first, but they start kicking sand around and getting very noisy. You notice their parents lying not far away. You have been cornered at a party by someone who has strong political views. Unfortunately, you don't share these opinions. Having argued politely for some time, you finally try to finish the conversation as diplomatically as you can by saying:              

One of your closest friends has just won an all-expenses-paid holiday to the Caribbean. Having congratulated her, you say enviously:                

A colleague recommends a film to you. You go to see it and really don't enjoy it at all. The next day at work, she asks you what you thought of it. You don’t want to embarrass her, but you pride yourself on your honesty, so you say:              

You are in a crowded elevator when it stops between two floors. You push the buttons but nothing happens. After you’ve been stuck for ten minutes or so, one of your fellow passengers starts to panic. In an effort to calm her down, you say:
